About Richard
I coach leaders who are carrying more than they should because their leadership teams are not yet operating at their full potential. My work is about helping you see how your leadership and the system around you are shaping those patterns, and then supporting you and your team as you experiment with new ways you can, together, deliver the results that matter.
I have been an active coach of senior executives and high-potential leaders for over 20 years. With several certifications in executive coaching (including ICF ACC), and as a member of the Institute of Coaching, I maintain a growth mindset through continuing education and supervision.
Prior to building my coaching practice, my career had four distinct phases:
Most recently, I was a senior vice-president at Optum (part of UnitedHealth Group), responsible for architecting and shaping win-win complex alliances with health systems to help them deliver stronger results on the goals of the quadruple aim in healthcare.
Previously, I was President of OptumLabs, a healthcare research and innovation collaborative. At OptumLabs I built over 30 health sector partnerships with large health systems, disease foundations, government agencies, life science companies, and more.
Before joining Optum, I was a principal at Sigma Partners Venture Capital, investing in early-stage technology companies.
Earlier, I was an entrepreneur and startup executive. I co-founded Phase Forward, providing software services for pharmaceutical clinical trials.
These experiences now show up in my coaching through a mix of strategic thinking, comfort with complexity, and very practical attention to how leaders actually get work done through others.
Outside work, I am on the board of Seeds of Peace, an organization empowering the next generation of peace builders, with programs in the US, Israel/Palestine, and India/Pakistan.
